  1. Delta is more contagious compared to other variants

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Delta (B.1.617.2) is a “variant of concern” as well as the “fattest and fittest” among the Covid-19 variants. Delta first appeared in December 2020 in India, eventually becoming the dominant strain in both India and Great Britain.

In July 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) said in a press release that the Philippines is experiencing local transmission of the Delta Variant and that the public should avoid unnecessary travels and gatherings. Local Government Units were urged to shorten the case detection and immediately isolate symptomatic patients. In addition, the authorities must also prioritize the vaccination of senior citizens and people with co-morbidities.

  1. Unvaccinated people are at risk

People who have not yet received their required Covid-19 vaccine doses are more at risk of acquiring the Delta Variant. There were also no vaccines available for kids, making them at higher risk of getting Covid-19 Delta. This is why fully vaccinated adults are urged to still strictly follow health and safety protocols especially if they live with children, unvaccinated individuals, and people with co-morbidities.

  1. Delta Variant Symptoms

It is recommended that you get tested and stay at home if you experience any of these symptoms:

- Headache

- Sore throat

- Runny nose

- Fever

Inform your LGU Health representatives that you are getting tested and notify them of your results, especially if you tested positive.

  1. What should we do?

GET VACCINATED. All viruses will continue to mutate if they continue to spread. Encourage your family and friends to get their required dosage. Remember, getting your full vaccine dosage will be your first line of defense against severe symptoms of Covid-19 and other viruses. Most importantly, DO NOT SELF-MEDICATE. Seek medical attention if you experience any of the above symptoms.
